Martin Doorhy is a member of The Law Offices of Thomas W. Lynch. His practice is concentrated in Criminal Law and Traffic Law. His Traffic Law practice is composed of extensive experience in DUIs (Martin has represented clients in over 600 cases), Secretary of State Hearings (more than 300) for permits and licenses, CDL Drivers (over 100), and Driving While Revoked/Suspended, Criminal Speeding, and Leaving the Scene (more than 2,000 total cases). His Criminal Law practice is wide and varied. He has tried over 300 cases. These include Felonies which range from Rape, Attempt Murder, and Child Molestation, to Aggravated Battery, Armed Robbery, Gun Charges, and Sale/Possession of Drugs. At the Misdemeanor level, Mr. Doorhy has tried cases involving matters such as Battery, Retail Theft, Aggravated Assault, and Domestic Battery.
Martin practices in northern Illinois, with almost 70% of his criminal and DUI cases in the Bridgeview and Markham courthouses, where he normally appears three days per week and has come to know the judges, prosecutors, and police departments very well.
ACADEMIC/PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
After attending St. Rita High School on an academic scholarship, Martin Doorhy enrolled at DePaul University with advanced standing based on his exceptional AP test scores. Martin completed his Bachelor’s degree in three years at DePaul University, and graduated summa cum laude. He became one of the youngest people ever to teach in the History Department at DePaul when he was selected at the age of twenty-one, from among thirty-six applicants, as the Teaching Assistant in the History Department. He obtained his M.A. with distinction with a GPA of 4.0.
As a student at Loyola University School of Law in Chicago, Martin was selected as a member of the school’s National Mock Trial Team, which finished fourth in national competition in Houston, Texas. In addition, he worked as a law clerk for over a year with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, where he was allowed to examine witnesses during felony trials while still a student. After he received his J.D., Martin obtained a two-year fellowship which enabled him to engage in research and organize a symposium concerning the Nuremberg War Crimes Trial.
Martin ultimately entered the United States Air Force. He graduated from the Judge Advocate Staff Officer Course after three months as a distinguished graduate. For years he served as an officer on active duty in the United States Air Force JAG Department. He prosecuted at over forty courts-martial and discharge board cases involving offenses that ranged from Rape and Child Molestation to Armed Robbery in his capacity as Chief of Military Justice at two separate bases. Based upon his extensive experience as a prosecutor, Martin taught criminal law and procedure to members of the USAF Security Police, the Office of Special Investigations and unit commanders.
Following his active duty obligation, Martin entered the Air Force Reserves where he continued to perform as a JAG Officer. He returned to the Chicago area where he became a member of The Law Offices of Thomas W. Lynch in Hickory Hills. His practice is limited to criminal defense work, which includes traffic cases, throughout northern Illinois. He has participated in hundreds of trials.
As an adjunct professor at DePaul University, Attorney Martin Doorhy taught courses in Constitutional Law and The History of the U.S. Supreme Court.
